Raft guide training Idre
Rafting involves using a rubber boat to navigate down a river. Most often in swift moving whitewater. The activity originated in the United States where a more primitive variant of today's rubber boats was used to explore and map the country's rivers in the 1840s.
It is a true adventure activity that offers adrenaline, a close to nature experience and builds team spirit. Working as a rafting guide is incredibly fun and developing. But it is also physical, requires high social skills and good decision-making.
In Sweden, commercial rafting is regulated by the state and the supervisory authority is the Swedish Transport Agency. In order to work with rafting in Sweden, you must have a rafting license issued by the Swedish Transport Agency. This license can be obtained by attending a training course with an instructor approved by the Swedish Transport Agency.
This is the kind of training we offer! It is six intense days where we focus a lot on practical aspects such as steering techniques, rescues and “reading the water” to predict what is about to happen before it happens. The majority of the course is spent outdoors with occasional theory sessions conducted indoors.

Practical information
Own transportation will be required to get to and from the river each day. It is advantageous to carpool, which is easiest to organize on site during the first day.
The first day we gather at 09:00 at a small field north of road 70, one kilometer west of Sjöändan. Here we will distribute the equipment you will wear during the week. Depending on water levels we will decide where to gather as we go. Information about meeting points will be made on an ongoing basis. Follow this link to find the meeting point for the first day.
The majority of the course will be spent outdoors. During Monday it is theory indoors after lunch and there is the possibility of heating food. The other days we eat lunch outside. It is beneficial if you have food with you that does not require preparation. There may be the possibility of an open fire if the weather permits, but nothing to plan for. Keep in mind that it will be long and cold days, about 08:00-18:00. Bring warm clothes to wear after getting off the river. Things to bring with you:
- Underwear of wool, synthetic or fleece (not cotton). Preferably 2 pairs.
- Good shoes to wear outdoors
- Warm clothes, extra layers
- Swimwear
- Towel
- Base to stand on (e.g. a seat mat or extra towel)
- Water bottle
- Thermos with hot drink
- Lunch with accessories
- Snacks
- Annotation material for the theory pass

About Forsverket
Forsverket offers courses and guiding in whitewater kayaking. We train according to the Swedish Canoe Association's Paddelpasset training system. We also have permission from the Swedish Transport Agency to train rafting guides.
During the summer holidays we are on rivers in Idre and the surrounding area. Norra Dalarna invites you to whitewater kayaking in fantastic mountain environments! There are several rivers here for whitewater paddlers regardless of skill. The rest of the year we are at Säveån in Floda just outside Gothenburg. Säveån flows through a nature reserve but is an incredibly accessible river. It's a perfect place to practice paddling technique and an oasis with a wilderness feel - just a stone's throw away from Gothenburg!
Paddling in moving water is special. You are in a dynamic environment where one day is not the same as the next. Everything is in constant motion. Regardless of how many times you have paddled a river, each time feels like a new adventure! Our goal is for as many people as possible to experience this highly addictive activity. We adapt to the individual so that all participants have the opportunity to develop at their own pace according to their own conditions. We want to create a safe environment where you feel comfortable taking the step into the world of whitewater.
